Pillar secured €15.2 million in funding within eight months to develop AI-driven construction finance tools.

A Milan-based startup called Pillar is applying artificial intelligence to transform one of Europe’s most stubbornly manual industries: construction. The company recently secured €15.2 million in funding within just eight months, creating a real-time control room for contractors. This system monitors cash flow, workforce management, and project margins while leaving existing workflows intact.

The €12 million seed funding round was led by Earlybird Venture Capital and Base10 Partners, with additional support from Italian Founders Fund and Emblem, a Paris-based investment firm. This follows a €3.2 million pre-seed round in September 2025—the largest construction-tech pre-seed investment ever recorded in Italy. The earlier round included participation from Pareto, Plug and Play, and angel investors such as Ignazio Rocco da Torrepadula, who founded the lending platform Credimi.

Pillar’s technology targets a persistent industry challenge: construction remains among the last major sectors where project managers still manually record daily costs in spreadsheets, often late at night, before emailing the data to finance teams. Reconciliation of these records can take up to a week. The platform accelerates this process to hours by integrating data from accounting systems, bank transactions, and even WhatsApp messages in natural language format. Customers report an average weekly saving of 14 hours on administrative tasks.

The market opportunity is substantial. Construction contributes 11.4% to Italy’s GDP, yet only 20% of Italian firms deploy software for site management, while 60% lack any digital tools at all, according to Censis research. In less than a year, Pillar has signed 400 active clients, processed 460,000 invoices, and oversees 5,700 active job sites. The company’s annual recurring revenue reached €1 million within the first four months of 2026, with double-digit monthly growth.

The platform also addresses a financial blind spot in construction. Cost overruns and cash-flow opacity are leading causes of loan covenant breaches, which trigger penalties and reduce investor returns. By providing real-time visibility into project margins, Pillar functions as a risk-management tool for lenders and developers. As European construction lending becomes stricter, the demand for such transparency has increased.

The investor group reflects growing cross-border confidence in Pillar. Earlybird brings expertise in enterprise software, while Base10 offers a pathway to a U.S. Series A round. The company’s leadership team now includes Paolo Tarsia Incuria as Chief Strategy Officer and Lorenzo Demaio, who previously led engineering at Voi Technology. Additional angel investors have joined, signaling Pillar’s transition from an Italian leader to a company with European and global ambitions.

Looking ahead, Pillar plans to expand its client base to 5,000 active users by 2027 while growing its workforce to 120 employees. The new funding will support market entry in Europe and Latin America, as well as the development of new product lines. The company’s rapid adoption suggests that construction’s digital transformation may finally gain momentum—though widespread adoption will hinge on whether mid-sized firms, beyond large enterprises, recognize the benefits of replacing spreadsheets with AI-driven solutions.
