OpenAI Unveils ChatGPT for Workplace Use
OpenAI launches ChatGPT for workplace use to reduce daily tasks and increase productivity with automation tools like email and report management.

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Work, a new tool that can handle bigger tasks when you connect it to your apps, files and work systems. This tool is designed to break a project into smaller tasks, operate for hours and produce finished documents, spreadsheets, presentations and web apps.
ChatGPT Work can reduce the daily burden of emails, meetings, reports and administration for business leaders. It can connect to Gmail or Outlook and find the messages that genuinely require a response. It prioritises emails based on urgency, sender and deadline, summarises long threads and drafts suggested replies.
It checks calendars, documents or previous conversations to provide the context required for a more informed response. ChatGPT can also prepare the drafts for approval or, where supported and authorised, send them directly.
Work reviews a user’s email, calendar, Slack, Microsoft Teams, documents and project trackers to produce a single executive briefing. This briefing identifies approaching deadlines, unanswered requests, decisions awaiting approval and projects that appear to be falling behind.
Users could receive a morning report explaining what needs attention, what can be delegated and what can safely wait. Before a client pitch, investor discussion or board meeting, Work researches the people and organisations involved, reviews previous correspondence and gathers relevant company documents.
Then it produces a concise briefing covering recent developments, potential risks, outstanding questions and suggested talking points. Instead of spending an hour searching through emails and files, an exec could quickly arrive with the essential information in one place.
The value of a meeting is often lost when decisions are not recorded or follow-up work is delayed. Work turns meeting notes and transcripts into action lists, drafts follow-up emails and updates project documents. When connected to the relevant tools, it identifies owners, deadlines and unresolved questions.
For sales teams, it updates account plans and prepares the next customer communication while the discussion is still fresh. Work analyses budgets, forecasts, sales figures and other financial data before converting its findings into charts, spreadsheets or board-ready presentations.
A business leader could ask it to explain why revenue has missed its target, identify unusual movements in expenditure or model different growth scenarios. OpenAI’s finance teams have used the technology to help reduce month-end closing and forecasting processes from days to hours.
Users should still verify important calculations and financial conclusions before acting on them. Scheduled Tasks allow Work to monitor agreed sources continuously rather than waiting for a new prompt.
It checks competitor websites, regulatory announcements, customer feedback and company dashboards each morning, then reports what has changed. Users might ask it to flag price changes, new product launches, negative customer trends or developments that could affect the company’s strategy.
It updates an existing presentation or report when new information becomes available. OpenAI’s Sites feature allows users to build interactive dashboards, project trackers, launch calendars and internal portals without starting a conventional software project.
A business leader could create a central dashboard showing sales performance, major deals, operational problems and strategic initiatives. Work updates the dashboard as the underlying information changes, giving executives a more current view than a weekly PowerPoint presentation.
One potential benefit of ChatGPT Work is its ability to automate routine tasks, freeing up time for more strategic decision-making.
As businesses continue to adopt digital tools, they will likely see more solutions like ChatGPT Work emerge.
ChatGPT Work offers a unique set of features that can help businesses streamline their operations and improve productivity, similar to how costs can impact business decisions.
